Doppler Phases Explained: P1-P4, Ruby, Sapphire, Black Pearl

Doppler is the most misunderstood finish family in CS2. Two Karambit Dopplers - same name, same Factory New wear - can differ in price by 20x. The difference is the phase: which slice of the galaxy-swirl texture your particular knife received when it dropped. The phase isn't in the item name, so untrained buyers routinely overpay and untrained sellers routinely get robbed.

The four regular phases

Phase 2 is the chase - dominated by pink and purple, it commands the highest price of the four. Phase 4 is mostly deep blue and takes second place. Phase 1 (dark, balanced mix) and Phase 3 (darker greenish-black) trade lowest, often 30-40% under Phase 2 on the same knife. Gamma Doppler follows the same logic with a green palette, where Phase 2's emerald-heavy blades lead.

The three gems

Roughly one Doppler in ten rolls a gem instead of a regular phase. Sapphire - pure vivid blue - and Ruby - pure red - each trade at several times a Phase 2. Black Pearl, a deep purple-black shimmer, is the rarest of the three and a genuine grail: five figures on popular knife types. On Gamma Doppler, the equivalent chase is the Emerald.

How to check a phase in practice

Marketplaces usually label phases, but Steam Market listings often don't - which is exactly where bargains and traps both live. Ten seconds of checking is the difference between buying a Phase 3 at Phase 2 money and finding a mislabeled Sapphire.
